India Recap #3

Romans 12:12 - "Be Joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer."

Before Liz and I left for India, we got word some of our ministry plans fell through with a church in a nearby village to Pune. As our schedule was already set, we ended up with a free day. For me, this was a bit upsetting - I didn't travel around the world to sit in a hotel room for a day.

Leading up to the trip, I was praying for God to put our team in situations where we could interact with people who don't know Him. I prayed for got to open up opportunities for us to share the Gospel. He did...just not in the way I expected. Here is what happened:

The hotel we stayed at had an attached cafe/bar. On Monday when our group was returning from the House of Hope, the manager of the cafe, Fidah, noticed me with my guitar. He asked me to play that evening at the cafe to serve as entertainment for the patrons. I'm pretty sure Fidah thought the novelty of having a white American in his establishment playing a guitar would bring people in. Regardless, I saw this as an opportunity to meet people and as an answer to my prayers.

At my first session as a professional musician I played several worship songs (that's most of what I know), some Hootie and the Blowfish, Backstreet Boys, and Britney Spears. Because, why not Britney Spears?

Two really cool things came out of this event: First, two of the waitresses at the cafe came up and commented how excited they were to hear worship music. They were Christians, but it's not often that they hear worship music outside of the church. There isn't K-LOVE in India I suppose.

Second, a Chinese businessman heard the "concert" and came down from his room at the hotel. He came up to our group afterwards, and through the conversation we were able to invite him the New Years Eve service at the church later in the week. I am confident that though these conversations and interactions, the seeds of the Gospel were planted.

God answers prayers.
